Simon L Spain, Jr.

Simon L. Spain, Jr., 64, of Conway, SC passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born September 22, 1954 in Conway, SC, son of the late Deacon Simon J. Spain, Sr. & Pastor Laura Lee Blain Spain.

Left to cherish Simon’s memory are  his wife of two years, Frankie Gilmer Spain of Conway, SC; brothers, Melvin Spain and his wife Sharon of Conway, SC, Arnold Spain and wife Dina of Carolina Forest, SC, Cedric Spain of Conway, SC; sister, Shelia Spain-Campbell of Conway, SC; aunts, Jeanette B. Ray “Peepsie” of Conway, SC and Nellie Blain of Georgetown, SC; uncles, John Blaine and wife Beverly of Philly, PA; step-children, Kelly Nash and her husband Frank of Rock Hill, SC, Julie Hilton and her husband Ryan of Rock Hill, SC, Jennifer Hardin  of Fort Mill, SC and BJ Hardin of Chester, SC; step-grandchildren, Jacques, Aaliyah, Dakota and Tristan; special niece and god-daughter, Ida Spain; special niece, Chanika Spain and special nephew, AJ Spain; as well as a host of nieces & nephews; great-nieces & great-nephews; cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

Simon was an avid outdoorsman. He loved collecting and had refurbished a multitude of firearms, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with leather. A well-educated man, Simon graduated from Conway High School Class of 1972 where he played saxophone in the marching band, and went on to be a proud member and one of the original founding five members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Coastal Carolina University. For many years, Simon was a Reserve Officer for Horry County Sherriff’s Department. Simon was a faithful man, who became a Deacon, and in later years, was made an Elder of the Myrtle Beach Christian Church in Myrtle Beach. He will be truly missed by all who had the honor of getting to know him through the years.

A Celebration of Simon's Life will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Myrtle Beach Christian Church, 1226 Burcale Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579 with Rev. Danny Banks officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00AM until the time of service.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Simon’s name to Myrtle Beach Christian Church.
