Patricia Berthena (Wheeler) Gates

Patricia Berthena Gates, age 96, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Ralph W. Gates. Pat was born on October 6, 1922 in Ludlow, Massachusetts to Merton F. and Berthena M. Wheeler.

She was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Springfield Technical School. Pat retired from the Belchertown State School where she worked in physical therapy. Married in Dillon, South Carolina, Pat and Ralph spent many years camping in Myrtle Beach before moving to Surfside Beach in 1995. They enjoyed the ocean, spending time with family and friends and traveling. Pat was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Judith Latour, her son, Ralph Gates Jr. and wife Rosemarie; grandchildren, Sandra Jarvis, Scott Latour, Renata Morissette, Ryder Tietz and their families.  She was predeceased by grandchildren, Kenneth Latour Jr, and Rebekah Gates and son-in-law Kenneth Latour.

Pat also leaves to cherish her memory six great -grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law and husband, Mary and James Spencer.  

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 11, 2019 at 1:00PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

Donations may be made in her memory to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, Massachusetts 01104.
