Norma Bates Steadman

Norma Bates Steadman, 97, of Pawleys Island passed away peacefully Monday, December 31, 2018 at her residence. She was born November 18, 1921 in Tennessee, daughter of the late Hubert Nathanial Bates and Gladys Reynolds Armstrong.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, of fifty-eight years, Bruce Abel Steadman and a son, Bruce Abel Steadman, Jr.

Survivors include her two daughters, Ann Reynolds Steadman and her husband Julian Lee Caudle, Jr. of Pawleys Island, SC and Dorothy Steadman Saxon of Myrtle Beach, SC; and two grandchildren, Sarah Reynolds Saxon of Phoenix, AZ and Stephen Ross Saxon of Wellington, FL.

Norma grew up in Westpoint, MS and attended Mississippi State College for Women. She married Bruce in 1944 and moved to Rocky Mount, NC where they became active members of the First Presbyterian Church for over forty years. She and her husband moved to Little River, SC in 1993 to be closer to their much loved grandchildren.

Norma was a devoted wife and mother. She pursued her passions for music, art, sewing, singing in the church choir and winning awards for her paintings.

A graveside service and celebration of life for Norma Bates Steadman will be held on Saturday April 13, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Norma’s name to one of these organizations.
