James Harry Scales

James Harry Scales, 66, husband of Elizabeth Ann (Johnson) Scales, passed away on Saturday January 5th, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Jim was born on October 8th, 1952 in Johnson City, New York to Harry Scales and Helen (Koroluck) Scales. Jim attended Newark Valley High School where he met his loving wife, Elizabeth Ann (Johnson) Scales. After high school Jim attended Wake Forest University on a full athletic scholarship, playing football for the Demon Deacons. He went on to earn his MBA from Wilkes University. Jim married the love of his life on December 28th, 1973. They had three children and lived in Vestal, NY for 20 years before moving to Myrtle Beach in 1998.

Jim joins his parents Helen and Harry Scales, as well as his sister, Paula Fisher, who passed away just six weeks ago. He is survived by his loving wife, Beth; his children Meagan (Ray) Aponte and their son Evan; Michael (Anna) and their children, Raelin and Declan; and Brian and his children, Kayleigh and Aidan; his sister Jeanne (Dave) Nash; his brother George (Lori) Scales; his brother-in-law Alan Fisher; his mother and father-in-law Fay and Gary Johnson; his brothers-in-law Mark Johnson and Brian (Debbie) Johnson; his sisters-in-law Susan (Phil) Whalen, Wendy (Chris) Hill, and Laura Johnson; 22 nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews. Each were special to him in some way. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.

A memorial service will be held at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Jim would love donations made in his name to Help 4 Kids at help4kidssc.org or the Missions Fund at Belin Memorial UMC.
