Evelyn Pearl Ray, 87, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday February 28, 2019 at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on January 16, 1932 in Calverton, Virginia to the late Lawrence Newton & Ada (O’Roark) Newton.
Along with her parents, Pearl is reunited in death with her beloved husband of 56 years, Mr. Joseph Marion Ray; as well as seven sisters.
Pearl was a crafty woman with a heart of gold. In her free time, Pearl relished crocheting blankets, and playing cards, especially Kenasta. She was strong in her faith and loved going to church. Above all else, Pearl loved her family.
Left to cherish Pearl’s memory are her children, Linda Hopkins (Randy), Evelyn Laurie Faircloth (Jacky), Joseph Daniel Ray (Thelma), Richard Allan Ray, Catherine Lee Cooper, Johny Ray, & Kim Ray Waldrep (Jake); grandchildren, Rachel Whit, Raven Daniels, April Story, Michael Ray, Regina Ray, Christina Cusazk, Ricky Ray, Jodi Cooper, Joshua Cooper, Tessa Jackson, Mason Waldrep, Drayton Waldrep, & Patrick Ray; twenty two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a multitude of nieces and nephews; a large loving extended family; and many supportive friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Pearl’s life will be held on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 2:00PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends at 1:00PM until the time of service. The funeral procession will follow immediately to Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery in Myrtle Beach for burial.
At the request of the family memorial contributions in Pearl’s name may respectfully be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
