Eugene R. Modjeski passed away April 18, 2019 at the age of 82 years after a prolonged illness of thirty years. Previously to his illness his very successful career encompassed a broad spectrum in the botanical sciences including teaching in various colleges and research in plant biochemistry to operating a floral/greenhouse business in Port Jervis, NY and resident botanist in charge of Middleton Place Gardens in Charleston, SC. He was grateful for all his students and others who appreciated his expanding knowledge and abilities and the honors he received during his career. He was especially proud of the student honors of professor/teacher of the year on more than one occasion.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Bock Modjeski and their sons Eugene A. Modjeski of OK and Aleksandr Modjeski of NJ and their families.
A unique way to honor his memory would be to plant a tree, to never cut a tree and/or to support the efforts of SODA to prevent the destruction of oceanic oxygen producing phytoplankton.
