Donald A. (“Mr. Don”) Kane, age 92, went to be with his Lord on Friday, February 8,
2019, at the Prince George Healthcare Center, Georgetown.
He was predeceased by Betty Kane (mother of Ronald and Janis), and Dorothy (Hall)
Kane, his second wife. Born on May 28, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of
the late Ralph D, Kane and of the late La Geene E. (Foust) Kane.
Mr. Kane graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (PITT). He was a US Navy
WW II Veteran serving on the USS Dauphin. His ship passed the USS Missouri as the
peace treaty to end the war was being signed, August 15, 1946. As a veteran, he was
able to experience the Honor Flight to Washington, DC and view all of the war
memorials.
Since 1987, he has lived in the Jensen Community in Murrells Inlet with Dorothy.
“Mr. Don” worked at Tad’s Hardware and Harris Teeter, which was bought by Bi-Lo.
After working in the grocery business for almost 29 years, he recently “retired” in
December, 2018. Most importantly, he and his second wife found a loving church
“family” at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mr. Kane is survived by his son, Ronald W. Kane (Teresa Finn), two grandchildren,
William and Nathan, his daughter, Janis L. Culotta-Altares (David P. Altares), two
grandchildren, Benjamin and Justin (Anne), and two great-grandchildren, Harper
and Luca. He is also survived by several step-children, -grandchildren and -great-
grandchildren.
A service celebrating Mr. Kane’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at
4:00 PM, at the Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, Murrells Inlet.
