Clara Nell Smith, of Pawleys Island, born July 19, 1937, transitioned in peace from this life February 16, 2019. She departed in much the same way she lived it; humbly, faithfully and gracefully.
Nell was born in Troy, NC and lived her childhood in Marshville, NC. She was blessed to experience the small town feel of love and camaraderie through significant relationships with many brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends – very special niece, Karen Ruff, was a shining light in Nell’s life.
She was predeceased by her parents, James Stanley Smith and Mary Estelle Almond Smith, brothers, Warren and Bill Smith and sister, Carolyn McGinnis.
She is survived by her brothers, Hildreth, Larry and Joel Smith and two sisters, Mary Charles Edwards and Maxine Smith Nance.
There was always a lot of chatter and laughter when Nell was present. She loved playing golf and hitting the ball far. She could boat and fish and enjoy a picnic like no other. The game of chicken foot could be played for hours with her good friends, Linda and Janette, with dinner to follow as they were all equally good cooks.
Nell cherished her life at Pawleys Island and made a host of friends and leaves them with this memory –
All Is Well
- St. Augustine
Love never disappears for death is a non-event.
I have merely retired to the room next door.
You and I are the same; what we were for each other, we still are.
Speak to me as you always have, do not sue a different tone, do not be sad.
Continue to laugh at what made us laugh.
Smile and think of me.
Life means what it has always meant.
The link is not severed.
Why should I be out of your soul if I am out of your sight?
I will wait for you; I am not here, but just on the other side of this path.
You see, all is well.
A service to celebrate Nell’s life will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC.
