Clara Puerto Obituary

Clara Puerto (Gonzalez), a 30-year resident of New Rochelle NY, a 7-year resident of Scottsdale AZ and a 14-year resident of Conway SC surrounded by her family went peacefully to be with Jesus on July 13, 2019.   Clara was born on August 8, 1945 in Bogota Colombia to Alejandro & Blanca Gonzalez. She was the youngest of four children. She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Abelardo (Al) and her children, Maria (Serkan) Cankurtaran of Conway SC; Claudia (Robert) Harhigh of Depew NY, and Abe (Amy) Puerto of Katonah NY and her beloved grandchildren Robby, Alexandra, Matthew, Anna & Daniella,  She is also survived by her siblings, two sisters (Cecilia Vaca & Gloria Lara) in Colombia and her brother (Luis Gonzalez) in New Rochelle, NY as well as many loving nieces and nephews, most notably, Luz Marina Meza of NY and Alejandro Gonzalez of FL.

Clara married her beloved husband Abelardo (Al) on August 13, 1966 and the young couple moved to New York in search of a better life. She worked at NBW and then The Medical Letter as a bookkeeper for several years. She loved to travel all over the world with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren whenever she got the chance.  She was an avid reader and a beautiful soft-spoken woman with a smile that would light up the room. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing dominoes. She always had a kind word and never questioned why God had brought back her cancer after being in remission for 7 years. She was a devoted wife and the best mom one could hope for. Her love for her family was endless and patient.  She looks forward to her heavenly reunion with her parents and her best friends Linda & Jenny.

A memorial mass is scheduled for Friday 1:00 P.M, July 19th at St Michael’s Catholic Church 542 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.  The family thanks the fine staff of Embrace / Crescent Hospice that attended to her and for their loving care and compassion.  In lieu of flowers, mom requests that donations be made to Champion Autism Network, in her memory in the name of her precious grandson Matthew Cankurtaran.
