Alzata Lee Obituary

Alzata Cowart Lee, 90, passed away peacefully with her loving daughter by her side on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on December 6, 1928 in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina to the late Benjamin & Ethel Cowart.

Along with her parents, Alzata is reunited in death with her beloved husband and soul mate, Raymond Lee; their son, Raymond Andrew Lee; brothers, Carlton Cowart, Earl Cowart & Clifton Cowart; as well as her sister, Dot Moore.

Alzata was the first waitress for Lee’s Inlet Kitchen when they opened their doors in 1948. She also helped Lee’s son open his own restaurant, Wallace Lee’s. Alzata graciously retired after 16 years of dedicated service from All Saints Church where she worked in childcare. Alzata was an active member of Timberlake Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach and was proud to be a member of the Eastern Star Woman’s Auxiliary group associated with the Shriners. At one time, Alzata was interviewed by the Georgetown County Library about her life and the good old days in Murrells Inlet. Her absence in the community will be deeply felt by all who had the honor of getting to know her.

Left to cherish Alzata’s memory are her adoring daughter Kathy Lee Leone of Murrells Inlet; her admiring grandchildren, Charles Raymond Leone & Maria Alzata Leone, her feline companions Sugar Bear and Ozzie; as well as a large, loving, extended family, many supportive friends, neighbors and patrons.

A celebration of Alzata’s life well lived will be held 4:00-until Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Myrtle Beach High School Auditorium, 3302 Robert M. Grissom Parkway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. A visitation will follow with a light meal.

A graveside service will be held privately.

At the request of the family, to honor Alzata’s memory please consider memorial contribution’s in lieu of flowers to a children’s charity of one’s choice, as Alzata was very passionate in her love of children.
