Alta Greer Sparks

Alta Greer Sparks, 65, of Murrells Inlet, SC died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and close friends on July 12, 2019. She was born on July 29th, 1953 in Spartanburg, SC, the daughter of the late Jack Donald Greer and Elizabeth Craft Greer.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Edward Sparks (Eddie), sister Donna Greer of Florence, SC and a step-mother Shirley Greer Church of Florence, SC.

Survivors include her two daughters, Tara Sparks Alford (Kevin) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Kelley Nichol Sparks of Murrells Inlet, SC; one granddaughter Mason Elizabeth Alford; one sister Lynn Greer (Marcia Atkinson) from Goose Creek, SC; one brother Marc Greer from Darlington, SC; one step-sister Susan Jackson (Roxanne Sprague) of Florence, SC; one niece Wendi Hobin of Leavenworth, KS; one nephew Bryan Greer of Florence, SC.

Alta grew up in Atlanta, GA and moved to Florence, SC when she was a teenager. Alta graduated from West Florence High School, Class of 1971. Following graduation, she married her High School sweetheart and the greatest love of her life. Alta and Eddie moved to Murrells Inlet, SC in 1976 to start their new life and family. Alta devoted her life to her husband, children, family, and treasured friends.

We would like to give special thanks to the Lung Transplant Care Team at MUSC in Charleston, SC with special mention of Dr. Timothy Patrick Whelan, Dr. Luca Paoletti, and Transplant Coordinator – Registered Nurse Jason Ferro. We would also like to thank the entire Team at Amedisys Hospice of Myrtle Beach for the love, care, and compassion they provided during this time.

A Graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on July 15, 2019 at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, 4182 Highway 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. A gathering of friends and family immediately following the service will be held at the home of Greg and Sheena Beverly, 3662 Jordan Landing Drive, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
