Obituary

Former Washington, DC and Maryland resident John P. Emory, Jr. died October 26 at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was 80 years old.

John served in the U.S. Air Force and was part of the Strategic Air Command U-2 program during the early years of the US-Russia Cold War. After leaving the Air Force he became a member of the DC Fire Department and proudly served as a professional firefighter for nearly 20 years. Much of his career was spent at Engine 9, his beloved second home. After retiring from the DCFD, John had a career in HVAC sales with several DC area companies.

John moved to South Carolina in 1992 and spent 15 years working as a starter and ranger at golf courses in Myrtle Beach. He enjoyed golf and played whenever he could.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sybil; four children, Randy (Jill), Jeff (Dee), Pam (David), and Jay (Michele); two stepchildren, Gregg (Bonnie), and Chris (Ashley); eleven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William (Larry) Emory and David (Pat) Emory; and stepson Mitch Bagwell.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to http://heroes.org/donate-now/, for which he had great passion.

A celebration of life will be held 1:00-3:00 PM at the American Legion, 3950 Hwy 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576, November 26, 2017.
