James E. Dahr, III, 67, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday July 27, 2017 at his home in Murrells Inlet. He was born on January 25, 1950 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late James Ervin and Irene Saunders Dahr, Sr.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1970, until 1976 where he was assigned to squadron, VFA-37 Ragin' Bulls. Following his honorable discharge and return to Connecticut, Jim went on to work for Sikorsky Aircraft from where he retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Jim's greatest passion in life was his family. He would cook large family meals making his famous sauce and was an expert at preparing pineapple upside down cake. He was excited to learn new things about the Mafia. He could commonly be found reading a book or watching a movie about the Mob.
In his free time, he could be found on the beautiful local beaches, soaking up the sun. He was a devoted New York Yankees fan. Never known to slow down, he was also a member of the American Legion for 35 years.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory is his adoring wife, Stephanie Dahr of Murrells Inlet; their children, Janeen Dahr of Bridgeport, CT, James Ervin Dahr IV and his wife Erica of Milford, CT, Justin Scott Dahr and his wife Amanda of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Timothy James Dahr and his wife Emily of Virginia Beach, VA; eight amazing grandchildren and one beautiful great-granddaughter; as well as many close friends and neighbors.
Funeral Services for Jim will be held on Saturday August 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Cemetery, Hwy. 544, Conway. The family will receive friends on Friday August 11, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to the Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina, P.O. Box 30307, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588.
Jim’s family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to Waccamaw Oncology, Embrace Hospice, the palliative care at the VA in Charleston, his gifted nurses, Rachel, Wendy and Latoya as well as everyone who has reached out the family with their kind words, prayers, visits and continued support.

Jimmy, I know you will be cooking in heaven. I will always remember our Friday night lunches at Sikorsky in the "heat treat" dept. It seems we cooked more food in the ovens than helicopter parts. My deepest sympathies to your family. you were one of the good guys. You will be missed my friend. P.S. The NY Yankees never had a more devoted fan.

My sincere condolences to Jimmy's family for your loss. Jim and I grew up and went to Bassick HS together. I am proud to say Jimmy and I were best friends growing up, we played baseball across from his home at Went field and played basketball in my back yard. Jim and I were both in the Navy at the same time stationed in FL.
Ironically just today I found a picture of me and Jimmy on my dads boat on lake zoar in CT. from 50 yrs ago. A couple of hours after I found the picture my sister called and told me of Jim's passing.
You will be missed my friend.
