Mr. Wayne Lee Adkins, 74, passed away peacefully, with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at his home in Myrtle Beach. A native of Radford, Virginia, he was born on October 18, 1942 to the late John and Mary Elizabeth Howell Adkins.
Wayne was a Graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and an Master’s Degree in Education for Curriculum and Instruction. He also held a Master’s Degree from Radford University in Science . Among his many capacities, he served as a Science Instructor in North Carolina, and Professor of Technology at Horry Georgetown Tech and at Coastal Carolina University. Wayne Retired in 2013.
An active member at Surfside United Methodist Church, Wayne served as a Stephen Minister, President of the Surfside United Methodist Men, and Treasurer of the Wesley International Sunday School Class. Under his leadership, the Drew Lattin Scholarship Fund was formed. During this period of time, he was an active member of Thorn Spring Golf Course.
An avid Virginia Tech fan, Wayne loved to play golf, walk on the beach, and encourage all who knew him. Many of his former students sought his advice and treasured his friendship. He was the epitome of a Southern gentleman, and was delighted to be honored as Kentucky Colonel.
Wayne is survived by his adoring wife, Carlas(Carole) Adkins of Myrtle Beach; his Daughter, Mary Beth (Ken) Alexander of Simpsonville, SC; step-son, Ken (Teri) Smith of Lakeway, TX; grandchildren, who were his whole world, Kenneth Alexander, IV and Payton Alexander; step-grandchildren, Palmer Smith and Jackson Smith, as well as many supportive friends.
A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 3:00pm at the Surfside United Methodist Church, 800 13th Ave N, Surfside Beach, SC 29575.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that Memorial Contributions be made to Jason’s House, c/o Surfside United Methodist Church or to Surfside United Methodist Church Building Fund.

MB, KBA, Kenneth and Peyton - My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Wayne was such a wonderful man. He had such a great sense of humor, and a contagious laugh. If you were with Wayne, you were having fun. I know he will be loved and missed forever.

Martha and I send our sincere condolences to Carole and all of Wayne's family. Wayne and I were Monroe Terrace kids and we attended school together at Belle Heth and Radford High School. We were friends for sixty seven years. Good Memories

Wayne, I was so sorry to learn of your passing. I had hoped at the RHS, '61, 55th class reunion that your health had taken an upturn. Sadly, we will never have that golf game we anticipated. I will miss you.
