Sylvia Furlough Obituary

Sylvia A. Furlough, 73, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024.  She was a daughter of the late Albert Furlough, Sr. and LaVerne Layton Furlough.

Sylvia was a reader: she read thousands of books during her life, and she was especially fond of Science Fiction.  She was in line the day Star Wars opened in 1977, and she was an original Beatles fan from the moment she saw them on Ed Sullivan.  (A year later, as a birthday gift to their mother, she and her sister Barbara stopped playing Beatles records for the entire day.) Sylvia was smart, kind, caring, and had a wickedly wry sense of humor.  She attended Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, TN, where she made lifelong friends; and she made many more while working at numerous businesses along the Grand Strand.   Throughout her life she was a bright spot to her friends, family, and work colleagues, and she enjoyed laughing, talking, and debating with them all about life.

She was predeceased by her parents Albert Sr. and LaVerne, and her brother, James E. Furlough.  Her survivors include her sister, Barbara J. Furlough of Myrtle Beach; brother Albert Furlough Jr. and wife Debbie of Murrells Inlet, SC; brother Michael Furlough and wife Ellie Goodman of Ann Arbor, MI; her niece Krystal and husband Jeff Nesbitt; her nephew Justin and wife Stephanie, and grand nephews Jordan, Jeremiah and Parker.

For Barbara, Albert, Jimmy, and Michael she was a wonderful big sister.   Sylvia adored her dogs Amara and Belle, and many before them.  Those wishing to honor Sylvia’s life may choose to donate to All About Animals Rescue and Transport of Myrtle Beach (https://www.facebook.com/AAART16/), or Grand Strand Humane Society of Myrtle Beach (https://www.grandstrandhumanesociety.com).
