Mae "Carol" Mathias, age 89, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away on April 22, 2024. She was born on May 6, 1934, in Wise County, Virginia. Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Carol is survived by her husband, Leslie N. Mathias, her sister Virginia Owens, her brother Robert Owens, her children Tony (Sheilah) Mathias, Pam (Jim) Craig, Barbara (Mike) Florence, Tim (Julie) Mathias, her grandchildren, Amber (Tyler) Amos, Tara (Grant) Bennett, Danae Jeter, Mark (Lauren) Mathias, Cara Tomko, Michelle Dolly, Jeff Craig, Brett ( Heather) Florence, Brock (Ashley) Florence, Anna (Nico) Rittmeyer, Callie (Jacob) Clausen, her great-grandchildren, Haynes, Finley, Lola and Briggs Amos, Paxton Bennett, Ella Tomko, Guy Dolly, Brooklyn Florence, Ava Florence, Arlo Clausen and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Thurman Whitaker, her mother, Lola Moore, and her brothers Odell Whitaker, Lamar Whitaker, John Owens and Jack Owens.
Carol was a member of the Grand Strand Church of Christ. She found joy in sewing, crafting, gardening, and baking. Her dedication to her hobbies brought warmth and creativity to those around her. Her greatest joy, however, was in her marriage of 73 years to her beloved husband, Les , being “Mom” to Tony, Pam, Barbara and Tim and being the best “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services for Carol will be held on Thursday, April 25th, at 10:30 am at Burroughs Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will take place at the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC for immediate family.
