Frederick “Carl” Reinhardt died peacefully on the morning of April 7, 2024 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina after a brief illness.
Carl was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended Shady Side Academy. After graduating from Harvard college, he conducted post graduate studies at the University of Michigan.
His noteworthy career in international finance spanned over six decades, in three separate chapters. Carl started as a corporate banker with Bank of America, working as a manager in Guatemala, Bolivia, Colombia, and Panama, followed by London. He returned to New York City with his family, working in leadership positions with Banca Serfin and Allied Bank International. Carl then worked as a development banker, serving with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (now known as the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation) where he was Director of Latin America Project Lending and Director of Business Development. His third and final international finance chapter was as an impact investor, serving as a founding partner of Dev Equity, a social impact fund active in Latin America.
Those who worked with Carl admired his sharp mind, direct analysis, and open heart. He was an original, shaped by his upbringing, global experiences, and deep convictions.
Carl was an active parishioner and supporter of Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawley’s Island and National Cathedral in Washington D.C. His passions included listening to classical music, collecting unique art, travelling, and reading.
Carl is survived by his son Peter Reinhardt of Summit, New Jersey, daughter Elizabeth Bredahl (Thomas) of Darien, Connecticut, 9 grandchildren, and his life partner Gail Whitehead of Conway, South Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his father Frederick Reinhardt, mother Grace Reinhardt, and daughter Maria Reinhardt DeCesare.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held on June 10 at The Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawleys Island at 4:30 pm.
